COVID 19 Intervention: Potiskum, Yobe State
Mr. Yahuza Rabiu took to the streets of Potiskum in Yobe State with the goal of sensitizing and enlightening the people of GRA Potiskum on Covid19 and its safety procedures especially using face masks, washing hands and encouraging other to do same using their language and religion values. The sensitizations took place at the following places:
Tashan Dan Barno Motor park along Kano road, GRA Potiskum; In this location, costumers, by passers and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) unionists were engaged in the Sensitization and 36 face masks and two hand sanitizers were issued the start and two fliers at the end.
Gedal Plaza; Reached out to 11 people and issued 11face masks, 2 fliers and a hand sanitizer. The manager donated 1 bag of pure water to the people that stayed and listened.
Magistrate court chicken and grain mini market, behind magistrate court, GRA Potiskum: A traditional ruler, Mai Anguwa Sale led the Sensitization and the following items were issued 20 face masks and a hand sanitizer.
Old Airport Main Mosque, GRA Potiskum: Malam Yahaya organized his students (Almajiri) and opened the Sensitization himself. The team issued 16 face masks to 16 students that attended the Sensitization and handed over 16 face masks and two hand sanitizers to Malam Yahaya, the Almajiri malam.
Lessons learnt from the Sensitization that many people still believe Covid19 isn’t real and was fabricated by politicians to rob the State’s treasuries.
Yahuza also recommended that religious and traditional leader should be engaged in creating awareness Sensitization on Covid19, Government and nongovernmental organizations should focus more on offline campaigns against COVID19, Hand washing soap and antiseptic should be available at worship centers and the doors handles should be disinfected always and Government should provide the medical requirements for the Almajiris or take them back to their parents who can do.
