COVID 19 Intervention: Bauchi LGA, Bauchi State
Mr. Ahmed Abubakar held a two (2) days live radio discussion program on 9th and 10th June 2020 in attempt to raise awareness about Corona Virus and the human rights violations occurring during the Lockdown. The first radio program themed; COVID -19 Pandemic: CSO’s Inclusion and Role Towards a More Effective Response was to raise a discuss against exclusion of civil society organizations and other development partners from the State emergency task force to combat COVID-19. The Guests that featured on the discussion were: Mal. Sodangi Chindo (ED, Muslim Aid Initiative Nigeria and Chairman of the CSOs EDs Forum); Mr. Nicholas Afeso Osojah (Project Director of Leadtots and Human Development Services; and Mr. Seun Justin Onarinde, Program Manager of Leadtots and Human Development).
The discussion was centered on the need for assisting the State Government in sensitization and awareness creation to the citizens with verified information on the reality of the COVID – 19 pandemic and the need for CSOs and citizen’s monitoring of the distribution of palliatives to the citizens of the state by the COVID – 19 Task Force aimed at advising authorities concerned where necessary towards achieving a more effective distribution process and other related issues of both local and national significance.
The second radio program hit the air waves with the theme: COVID -19 Pandemic and human rights violations and the need for more enlightenment campaigns on the dreaded COVID – 19 Pandemic). Featured guests like Mr. Sukumun Ezekiel, (Program Manager, WODASS), Dr. Saba’atu Elizabeth Danladi, (ED/Founder, AFRIhub) and Mr. Mbami Sabka, (ED, Prison Inmates Development Initiative, PIDI Nigeria).
The discussion was centered on the need for the monitoring of human rights violations by security personnel arising from the COVID – 19 curfews imposed by the Federal Government and enforcement of public health safety measures to curb the spread of the dreaded COVID – 19 viruses among others and other related issues of both local and national significance.
